Discussing the 2012 WTA Championships
I continue to discuss 2012 WTA Championships in Istanbul with a tennis coach.
Can you comment of the last tennis matches, especially Serena Williams vs Victoria Azarenka?
I watched the Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka match. Serena was horrendous, but such is her level above everybody else, like Steffi Graf in the 80’s, that she doesn’t need her A game, or even her B game, to win. Victoria Azarenka simply out powered Angelique Kerber, who perhaps doesn’t use her lefty slice serve as well as she ought.
What is a secret of very good play of Agnieszka Radwanska? She does not hit the ball, she does not have a strong serve, but she is in the world tennis elite group for last 5 years, how is it possible?
Agnieszka Radwanska is not a pure defensive player. They don’t last. I’d call her a smart player, in the manner of Martina Hingis or Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, and they do last. But they lose to power players who are not missing. In a major I might expect her to beat one of the big three, but not all three of them.
that is a very accurate analysis about taking out one of the big three but not all because one of them is bound to be striking the ball superb. The part about defensive players not lasting however only holds true on the womens side in my opinion because the man are so much faster and strogner , allowing them to play this style.
Top analysis. Radwanska v Hingis would b a close contest, both fit n in same era. The only player in top 3 she would beat occasionally is Sharapova. I cant see her coming close to Azarenka or Serena on full flight.
