Discussing the 2012 WTA Championships

I continue to discuss  2012 WTA Championships in Istanbul with a tennis coach.

Can you comment of the last tennis matches, especially  Serena Williams vs Victoria Azarenka?

I watched the Serena Williams and Victoria  Azarenka match. Serena was horrendous, but such is her level above everybody else, like Steffi Graf in the 80’s, that she doesn’t need her A game, or even her B game, to win. Victoria Azarenka simply out powered Angelique Kerber, who perhaps doesn’t use her lefty slice serve as well as she ought.

What is a secret of very good play of Agnieszka Radwanska? She does not hit the ball, she does not have a strong serve, but she is in the world tennis elite group for last 5 years, how is it possible?

Agnieszka Radwanska is not a pure defensive player. They don’t last. I’d call her a smart player, in the manner of Martina Hingis or Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, and they do last. But they lose to power players who are not missing. In a major I might expect her to beat one of the big three, but not all three of them.
