Preseason Training For Elite College Tennis Players — 3 Comments

  1. could you explain the difference between professional marks versus amateur marks? are we talking in terms of length, placement or combination? how do we practice and make these adjustments? thanks

    • Thanks for your response E Narboni. I put the cones about 1.5-2 feet from the sideline and baseline. This is a proper margin to hit the ball with a lot of pace with minimal risk of missing wide. If the players hit the ball too short or too much in the middle of the court, then it is a miss. What you are going to find is that it is tough for many amateur players whether they are juniors or college players to hit these specific targets. Many players have trouble hitting the same type of ball over and over again with the proper height and depth to be able to be a consistent discipline tennis player. What you will see many times is a good shot on the cone, then maybe one late towards the middle of the court, or one too low over the net which may go a bit past the service line and then a good one on the cone. When you see this from the players, you know that they have trouble being a discipline tennis player that can get in the proper position and hit the same ball over and over again. If players struggle in this type of drill, you know that they need many hours of discipline repetition to become a much better player.

      • thanks a lot Todd for the answer. Will help me a lot with my junior player.
